Integrative Narrative
My name is Fabiola or Fabi Saavedra Barron. I was raised in small town Salinas which is also known as the "Salad Bowl". My family is from an a common land (ejido/rancho) Buenavista, San Luis Potosí, México. My parents came to the U.S. to have a better life. I am the oldest of three siblings. They are biggest motivation to continue with my education and I want them to suceed as well. My siblings are my inspiration to continue to pursue my dreams. I am thankful that my family supports me on my education. As well my family has isntilled me to not give up and achieve my goals. When I was growing up I had difficult challenges that I faced like not knowing the language English. At first it was difficult for me because I couldn't communicate with my professors and classmates. But that didn't stop me to learning English. When I was in senior year in high school I found my passion for languages and literature especially for Spanish. It all started when I decided to take an honors class; Spanish language and culture. I wanted to feel more connected to my heritage which I am proud of being a Mexican. However, I enjoyed reading literature especially books of Magic Realism like Gabriel García Márquez. On May 2017, I obtained my degree AA in Spanish at Hartnell Community College and I plan to obtain my bachelors degree here, at California State University of Monterey Bay.
So far I like the classes that I have taken at CSUMB. I have great professors that inspire me to continue to pursue my goals and never give up. Up to this time, the courses that I have taken like Spanish 306 has taught me many things like the civilizations and its culture which it amazed me a lot to learn more about it. The courses that I took here at CSUMB have prepared me for my future journey which I extremely thankful with all the proffessors for taking their time for their dedication and knowledge. My goal is one day to become a Spanish teacher to help out my community and to inspire others the value of a beautiful language like Spanish. I also, plan in the future to become a teacher and teach young adults knowledge and be as well their mentor in order for them to pursue their goals.
