Hcom 312 was the introduction cooperative argumentation and this course helped me fulfill my GWAR requirement. In this course we discussed how to argue but in a respectful manner. Throughout the semester we had discussions during class upon the readings we read. For example, a book that we used was The Argument Culture by Deborah Tannen. This book was useful for this course it basically gave a an overview of how society argues and defends their own opinions and perspectives. We discussed that argument can have two meaning one can be that you argue in a civilized manner and the second is that you may argue in a violent manner however it all depends what the person is arguing about. In this course Mr. Leatham assigned three projects. The first one was about editorial, the second one about comparing the U.S to another country specifically on its government. The last project was about interviewing someone from CSUMB about their major. The project that I enjoyed the most was the second project because I was able to choose a country that i have always been interested; Argentina. While i was doing my research about the united states and Argentina I found some similarities and differences. It caught my attention how to research on very important details such as their elections system work. In addition, the third project I enjoyed it because I got to interview a classmate with my same major Spanish. In the meantime i was interviewing her i noticed we have similar goals. This course taught me how to argue in a respectful manner and that arguing does not necessarily mean that a person is fighting verbally is just a way to exchange opinions and expressing yourself.
